Carlsbad Cavern's

After watching the bat flight the evening before we spent the night at the only RV park in the area in White City, NM. It wasn't much and was expensive by RV standard rates but was still cheeper and better than a motel room. Especially since the motor home already had our beds, clothes, a bathroom and food we preferred over any kind of fast food. It did have electric and water hook ups. We decided to shower in the motor home since we had the water hook and on inspecting the shower in the restrooms we were glad we did.  Speaking of which I didn't remember seeing a fast food place in White City, just some convenience stores with the gas station. Maybe we just didn't see the main part of the town since we were more concerned with seeing Carlsbad Cavern's National Park. There were lots of places to eat and lots of motels in the actual town of Carlsbad which was farther from the Park.
The Cavern's are one of the largest in the US that you can visit. You can walk in from the original entrance where the bat flight takes place each evening or you can go in through the visitors center and pay to take the elevator down the 800 feet plus and then walk about a mile through the cavern's and go out either way. We opted to go and come by way of the elevators. We didn't have to pay as we are both old enough to have the National Park Pass for seniors.  One good thing about being over 65. I can't remember what the prices were since we didn't have to pay but wasn't to much.

Sarah and I did take a lot of photos in the cavern's as they are allowed there but they didn't come out that well which is what we expected. We made a point of buying a good book from the gift shop that had much better photos of the stalagmites and stalactites in the caves. The caves are lighted some. Enough so that you can find your way along the pathway through the caves. You have to stay on the part and not touch any part of the caves as getting of the paths and touching any part of it can cause damage to the fragile system there.

Blue skies and the open road looked great after the dark of the caves on our way out of the park,
