Spring Flowering Trees
A couple of weeks ago we took a ride and saw many flowering trees. I took some photos of some in peoples yard and hope they didn't mind. Their trees were beautiful. The first photo is of a wild cherry tree at the edge of the field behind our house. The weeping cherry is at the park. Part of the Bradford cherries were at a park and the last two photos are close ups of the flowers on the Bradford pear in our yard. Apparently I didn't get a photo of the whole tree.
My Random Thoughts #2
I always heard that if you wanted to have a nice lawn to never have a female dog. I heard that the places that the female dog peed would kill out the grass. Hummmmm. And it doesn't seem to apply to the male dogs. Hummmm. Okay. I heard but since I lived in New Mexico where grass was very difficult to grow anyway I never had much of a lawn. (We bought a house once that had a lawn. I did everything I could to keep it alive. That included sweeping sand off the grass. I finally gave up.) I have now been in Kentucky for three years. I have a 12 year old female dog. I have noticed that every where she pees that the grass grows better than where she doesn't. Hummmmm. I have decided that all those stories about having to use all kinds of fertilizer and other things to keep the grass growing due to the urine of a dog are all a marketing gimmick. Another thought is that it was a way to keep from having a female dog that was always having a litter of puppies before spaying was so common as it is today.
I have had eight female dogs and one male. I have had lots of friends with males and females. I am convinced that a spayed female dog makes the better pet. Of course pure luck played into wither I got a male or female when it came to getting a pup as most of them have been strays that wandered into my life and stayed. (Now having said this the next dog I get will be a male.)

My Random Thoughts #1
All my life I have loved trees and, living mostly in the southwest states, I babied every tree that was in the yards around the houses I have lived in. I would water them because the desert doesn't get rain very often. I would fertilize them as the desert 'soil', mostly some kind of sand, isn't very good for growing trees. I would gather seeds off of trees that seemed to be doing good in yard or park or out on the desert, plant the seeds in pots, raise the baby trees until they were big enough to transplant into the yard.
Now I live in Kentucky. There are trees everywhere. I find myself cutting down the seedling trees that sprout like weeds in my yard. The top photo is of my back yard.
But when I see a photo of a desert, like the photos, below, I feel my heart go pitty-patter at the thought of all that big, wide, open country that you can see clear across to the far, far horizon.
